Clubruns - JANUARY

Postby Focus » January 3rd, 2016, 10:05 pm

Sunday 03 January 2016 - Delamere

I was surprised to see seven at Handforth this morning, dry at 0930 but we knew what was to come!!

Andy, Baz, Dave W, Ian, Jonathan, Simon and Tony were out.

The rain started after 3miles so Ian and Jonathan turned back at Lach Dennis. It was down for Old Ma's but due to the grim weather we opted for Delamere. Not the best cafe in the world these days in my opinion but was welcome shelter and feed today. (As the Garmin data shows 40F/4C all day and only reached the dizzy heights of 53F/12C INSIDE the cafe, come on guys put the heating on will you!).

The rain was set in all day and really was not the weather for riding today. I think we all just needed to burn off some Xmas turkey!

Sunday - 17 January

The snow and ice must have put everyone off as there was only me at Handforth this morning.

Although it never got above zero all day the roads weren't actually too bad - just very wet and slushy - so I headed off solo with plenty of warm clothing on. Got to Delamere reasonably quickly so I decided to carry on to Old Ma's for lunch.

Think I only saw two or three other cyclists all day and the cafe was empty too.

80+ miles and back for 3ish. The coldest I got was in the 15 mins it took to give the bike a thorough wash down at home!

24 January

Jonathan, Tony, Dave, Ian, Baz and Simon met at Handforth and rode to Old Ma's via Great Budworth, the Weaver towpath, Delamere and Tarvin. Paul was waiting for us at the café and made 7 for the journey home via Church Minshull.

More or less the same ride two weeks running for me but it was very different with some very unseasonal weather - it was at least 12 degrees warmer than the previous week. This resulted in most of us being overdressed for the day and Dave even gave the residents of Tabley a treat by stripping down to bare torso for a cool down!

88 miles for me:

Just Simon and myself today, was wet at the start but the BBC had it down for dry to the south, so we opted for Audlem rather than Bradnop.

Sure enough by time we go to Jodrel Bank the rain stopped and we never saw any more rain until we got back to Holmes Chapel, so 80% of the ride was dry.

84 miles for me and 89 for Simon.
