April club runs

Postby simon » April 3rd, 2016, 9:32 pm

Ian, Simon, Tony and Dave were out today.

We avoided the half marathon in Wilmslow and rode out via Pickmere and the Weaver path at Acton Bridge where Tony headed for home.

Lunch was at Delamere and then back via Oulton Park and the disused railway track to Winsford.

About 75 miles for me and plenty more for Dave who also had to tackle the Brickworks to get home.

Well done to Andy Clark for his half marathon performance - all that training clearly paid off with a sub 1 hour 30 minute time.

Sunday 17 April
Another great day for cycling and there were seven at Handforth today - Ian, Simon, Baz, Jonathan, Mally, Dave and John Leonard.

We split into two groups - 1 flat and 1 hilly.

The hilly group headed out via tracks through Lyme Park to Disley and then up to Chapel.

Finally the bottom of the Rushup Edge road has been resurfaced so what used to be one of the worst corrugated roads in Derbyshire has nice smooth tarmac which was good for us and even better for the time triallists flying down it at full pelt today.

We were originally heading for Grindleford but decided to cut things short and go down Mam Nick for an early lunch at Hope, excited by the mention of cakes baked by Dave's wife and waiting for us at his place.

BAD NEWS for Andy Clark - your fav cafe in Hope (Woodbine) has changed hands/closed down :o :o so no more mega Bacon Butties for you.

The good news however is that the bike shop cafe nearly next door is pretty good and we had a very pleasant lunch there - sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine.

Back up Mam Nick then and to Dave's farm where the promised cakes were waiting and, as usual, excellent - thanks Sally!! Just time for a quick play with Dave's tractor before opting for the easy route home via the A6.

Only a short one for me - less than 60 miles but I'm sure we will make up for that later in the week in Mallorca.
