I wonder if anyone in the APRC today remembers Malcolm Firth, and that he was the club's first official coach.

As I recall, Malcolm got interested in coaching when one of his colleagues in Mather and Platt's drafting office, Irvine Andrew, asked Malcolm to help him get fit again after a serious accident. In the late 1960's and early 1970's I was one of the APRC riders who subsequently benefited from Malcolm's methodical and scientific coaching, and have memories of dark evenings training in Droylsden and in Sharston Industrial Estate, Saturday morning group training sessions at Dumplington Circle, and many unbelievably long hours on the Ergowheel under Malcolm's direction.

Malcolm was ahead of the curve in those days, and much of what I learned working with Malcolm I still use and apply today.
